Puhoi Show

Feb 6 and 9 is the annual Puhoi Show Day - actually the Waitemata Agricultural and Pastoral Show. On Saturday morning the crowd was light and the atmosphere pleasant and relaxed... ... looking west past Puhoi Store, the cars lined both sides of the road...
... back east, towards SH1, the traffic was building...
...and the gatekeepers were getting busy as people crossed the bridge into the show grounds...
Inside the milking cows were being judged under the tree shaded grounds to the north-west end..
..and covered pens nearby held superb examples of local ewes and rams...
.. In the main arena, hours of preparation by owners of horses and ponies, resulted in a variety of equine events...
...Inside the pavillion, culinary and floral skills, crafts and arts showed that the skills of yesteryear are still with us today...

...remembering the history of logging in Puhoi, the Puhoi Axemen's Club competed in rapid strokes of razor-sharp axes which left the bank of watchers (below right was half an hour before an event) nervous of toes so close...

...with entertainment including rides in a very old fire engine (left)

...and pony rides for local kindergarten...

.. and a series of entertainers including this joyfully dressed brass band...
...with a wide choice of sales and commercial displays. Fun for so many locals and visitors for yet another year.
